Diabetes Causes

A predisposition to develop type 1 diabetes may run in families, but genetic causes (a postitive family history) is much more common for type 2 diabetes.

Environmental factors, including common unavoidable viral infections, may also contribute.

Diabetes Treatment

Type 1 diabetes. People who have type 1 diabetes need to take insulin every day. This type of diabetes is less common and used to be called juvenile diabete

Treatment of Type 2 diabetes

Treatment typically includes diet control, exercise, home blood glucose testing, and in some cases, oral medication and/or insulin. Approximately 40% of people with type 2 diabetes require insulin injections.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced today the approval of Januvia (sitagliptin phosphate) Tablets, the first diabetes treatment approved in a new class of drugs known as DPP-4 inhibitors that enhances the body’s own ability to lower elevated blood sugar.

FDA approved Januvia for use in addition to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes, alone or in combination with two other commonly prescribed oral diabetes medications, metformin or a PPAR (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma) agonist, when either of these drugs alone, along with diet and exercise, don’t provide adequate blood sugar control.

Adherence to a diabetic diet is an important aspect of controlling elevated blood sugar in patients with diabetes. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) has provided guidelines for a diabetic diet. The ADA diet is a balanced, nutritious diet that is low in fat, cholesterol, and simple sugars. The total daily calories are evenly divided into three meals. In the past two years, the ADA has lifted the absolute ban on simple sugars. Small amounts of simple sugars are allowed when consumed with a complex meal. Natural Treatments for Diabetes

Greed and dishonest science have promoted a lucrative worldwide epidemic of diabetes that honesty and good science can quickly reverse by naturally restoring the body’s blood-sugar control mechanism. Diabetics have been told for decades they can consume sugary and sugar producing foods multiple times daily as long as they take enough insulin to cover themselves. There has been little to no recognition that high levels of insulin are just as dangerous over the long haul as sugar is to the Diabetic

A Healthy Diet

Contrary to popular myth, there’s no “diabetes diet.” Furthermore, having diabetes doesn’t mean you have to eat only bland, boring foods. Instead, it means you’ll eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains ? foods that are high in nutrition and low in fat and calories ? and fewer animal products and sweets. Actually, it’s the same eating plan all Americans should follow.
